Movin slow still..

The first two pictures are of a western show halter that I am donating to The "B.O.M.B." model horse show that will be held in Nicholasville, Ky on Sept 24...  It is being run by Rebecca Jann who is a really nice local Breyer Dealer.  as soon as I get it shipped and get info on how it will be offered by Rebecca, I'll let everyone know.  It took me over a month to make because I don't normally get a lot of time in the studio during the week.

I ahve been tooling the fenders for Chelsea nichol's set but it's been slow going.  Actually everything is slow going around here.

The last picture is of one of my new packaging boxes.. Obtained rather cheaply from Clearance at Rio Grande.  I thought I'd try to class up my operation a bit.. lol

I haven't fully recovered from my dad's passing.  Some days/weeks are better than others.. This week happened to be a hard one.  Lots of dreams about dad this week has made me more melancholoy than usual.  I probably will never "recover" but I hope to eventually have more good weeks than bad..

Some Progress! Whoot! And Halter for sale!

Some progress!  I came down with a Nasty Stomach Virus/Head Cold on Friday which made it look as thought I wasn't going to get anything accomplished in the studio this weekend.  Yesterday I felt like a bus hit me but today, after a lot of sleep, I was actually feeling a bit better.  Anthony was nice enough to watch RJ for an extended period of time while I etched silver and put things together.  I am most proud of the conchos on this halter.  LIke the last Arabian Show halter for the Stone Arabian Weanling, these halters are hand made.  Thanks to Vicky Norris who told me that she used Soldering "Helping Hands" .  I bought one and It's helped out my soldering tremendously!!

In that last picture that lead is sitting a little weird.. thats my fault.  Please don't hold it against the halter.


This halter has real silver Conchos, beads and a thin, hand etched plate across the nose.  They've all been coated to retard tarnishing.  It also has a roller buckle at the poll.  Lead is attached with a buckle and has a "stopper" at the end.  $80ppd to the lower 48. Been Wanting to Make one of these since she came out!  Real silver hardware, beads, conchos and noseplate.  Noseplate and conchos have real hand etching on them.  Halter is adjustable at the poll. 80.00ppd   Get it while you can.. no clue when I'll be able to make another one! :-)

This is a shot from my chair to my actual working space.  There is a halter there (Two actually), and above you'll see the fenders I'm working on for the saddle.  I have to redo the bottom skirt because the other one was a tad too small.. and the Dye I used was old.

My Latest Discovery for long term storage. Press and Seal wrap!  and I mean LONG term.. 

Every Since Breyerfest my Brain has been racing with inspiration.  Total flood of ideas and how to make things.  I think my emotions had me "bottled" up and being around Susan, Erin, Morgen, Ann, Maggie and everyone else at Breyerfest pushed me forward again.  I can barely concentrate on one project before another leaps in front of me, demanding to be chased.. lol!

Sue's Goodies once she arrived at my house.

 Sue's "Display case".  The years start at 1985 and go to 2009.  THe work in this box is exquisite.  Not just for the model horse hobby but for any craftsman.  There are so few of us that still braid, and even fewer that braid in miniature.  ONE of these bridles is worth hundreds of dollars.. the whole case is priceless!!

 My tackbox made by Robin Hudson (Formerly Poehlein), and Sue's tackbox. EVERY Time I see sue's display case I pause and just stare and admire. EVERY. Time.

Sue's Hands.  I have a fascination right now with Craftpersons/artists hands.  I'm going to do a life long, artistic series about it.

 Morgen Kilbourne's Hands with her SERIOUSLY cool New Corillio sculpture.  She was concerned that folks may not be interested.. so if you are and you love him like I do, EMAIL HER!

 

Maggie Bennett's Hands.  Maggie Is young for a sculptor of her talent and eye.  She has more talent in one of her pinky fingers than I have in my entire body.  I love her work and wish I could buy more! (I do have a cooper though!)

More Inspiration: Susan Bensema Young's hands

These are the Hands of the Master Miniature Braider, Susan Bensema Young. She is holding her bosal in black, red and white with an amazing, actually twisted mecate. I'm going to start photographing a lot more hands. They're so important to a creative person..

Inspiration

I have recently discovered the Joy of Netflix Streaming. That statement is an understatement. Every night I watch yet another "artsy" film that inspires me and reconnects me to my passion for art. Today, I watched "Wasteland" about Vik Muniz's project to help the poor of Brazil who work in the landfills and collect recyclables for very little money. Activism through art..

The other film I watched today was beyond the fold. A PBS documentary about Origami. It was only an hour long but I would've watched hours and hours of it. Above is the work of Eric Joisel, a french Origami Master who passed away in 2010 unfortunately. The above Characters are ONE PIECE OF FOLDED PAPER EACH. I'll wait for you to get up off of the floor.............................................................. Yeah, I'm pretty shocked too. And inspired. Like you wouldn't believe. All I can think is, Nothing is impossible. Nothing. You just have to find a way, and whatever lives in your head can be realized.

I know, deep stuff for a Saturday evening. My apologies for having an existential crisis but I've had to re-evaluate a whole lot in my life over the last 7 months. Now what to do with this Knowledge? Dunno yet.. Brain is still working out a plan...

On Monday, as previously mentioned, My mentor and Friend, Susan Bensema Young will be at my house. I love our Pow Wows and I look forward to them every year. The thing about when Susan visits is this - she doesn't mince words with me. She is not dazzled by "pretty". She is only dazzled by "good". And when I receive her approval on a piece.. I know that it's really good. And she keeps my ego in check.. which sometimes it needs.

I'll also be visiting with Erin Corbett. This is the first time that I've ever allowed.. er.. had someone over during my own time with Susan. I hope we all get along well :0)

My own work has been less focused.. or maybe as focused as my netflix watching.. lol! I keep wanting to work on my braided bridle instead of the saddle I should be working on.. I think I'm going to finish this part of the headstall and then put it down.. I think.. lol!

I am going to be schlepping around the Holiday Inn North.. er.. Clarion? Dunno what it's called now.. so if you see me stop me and say "hey"...
